Upcoming new car launches, unveils in May 2026: MG Majestor, Honda City & more

May is expected to see a fresh set of car launches and unveilings in India, following a busy April that featured multiple introductions across segments and price points. Last month included the launch of the VinFast VF MPV 7, an updated Volkswagen Taigun, the long-wheelbase Tesla Model Y L, the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric and more. The activity is set to continue, with several confirmed launches and more expected unveils. Automakers are preparing to strengthen their presence in segments such as compact SUVs, premium sedans and EVs. Upcoming models are likely to focus on added features, revised variant line-ups and incremental updates, alongside new introductions. With manufacturers maintaining the pace seen in April, May is expected to bring multiple announcements. Here’s a look at the models likely to be launched or unveiled in the coming weeks.MG Majestor First on the list is the new MG Majestor, which is expected to be launched in the first half of May. Pre-bookings are already underway; interested customers can book online or visit their nearest MG dealership for Rs 41,000. The showroom previews and test drives are already underway, and the deliveries are expected to begin right after launch.The SUV will be offered in three variants: Sharp 4×4, Savvy 4×2, and Savvy 4×4. Once launched, the new Majestor will rival the Toyota Fortuner Legender and is expected to be priced from around Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom). Talking about the engine first, it’s offered in a single 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel with 215 hp of power, which comes paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV gets a 4×4 system with an all-terrain management software, which MG calls M-Hub, which offers up to 10 selectable terrain and drive modes. It also gets a crawl mode called the M-Crawl function, and three differential locks. It also has a maximum water-wading capacity of up to 810 mm for the SUV. The SUV offers up to 10 off-road modes, with automatic on-the-fly switching between 2H and 4H drive settings.

The new Majestor is offered in both six and seven-seat layout options. The six-seater gets individual captain seats in the second row, while the seven-seater features a conventional bench. The dashboard gets a complete redesign with piano-black trim and silver accents that lend a modern feel. Features-wise, it gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen, infotainment, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, MG’s i-Smart 2.0 connected-car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker JBL sound system, electrically adjustable front seats that offer heating, cooling and multiple massage functions, three-zone automatic climate control with rear-row vents, dual wireless charging pads, a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, 64-colour ambient lighting, a gesture-operated powered tailgate and more. Toyota Urban CruiserEbella Next on the list is the long-awaited Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, which is expected to be launched sometime in May 2026. The Pre-bookings are open across Toyota dealerships for a token amount of Rs 25,000. Toyota is also offering an 8-year battery warranty, a 60 per cent assured buyback programme and a Battery-as-a-Service option. The Urban Cruiser Ebella will be available with two battery pack options: a 49 kWh unit and a larger 61 kWh unit. The latter is claimed to deliver up to 543 km of range in a single charge. As for the power figures, it makes up to 172 hp and 189 Nm of torque.

In terms of design, the Urban Cruiser Ebella retains a silhouette and dimensions similar to the e-Vitara but gets distinct Toyota-specific styling touches. Up front, it features a revised fascia with segmented LED DRLs, reworked headlamps and a slimmer bumper, giving it a cleaner and less angular appearance than its Maruti counterpart. The side profile remains largely unchanged apart from newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, while the rear sees an updated tail-lamp signature along with Urban Cruiser and Ebella badging. The model will be available in 5 monotone and 4 dual-tone colour options.The cabin layout remains unchanged, and in the features department, this electric SUV boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen supported by wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cloud-based navigation, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting with 12 colour options and ventilated front seats. Apart from that, it gets features such as wireless charging, a JBL sound system, automatic climate control, multiple USB ports, and an in-cabin air purifier.Honda CityNext is the Honda City. It remains unclear whether this will be a full generation update or a facelift. If it is a facelift, it would mark the second update for the fifth-generation model, following the first revision introduced in 2023. The City facelift is expected to get a redesigned bumper, a new grille and slimmer headlamps. Changes to the lower grille and slight revisions to the bonnet are also likely. Overall, the facelift appears to focus on incremental styling updates rather than a full redesign.The facelifted Honda City is expected to receive interior updates focused on features and comfort. Likely additions include a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and an updated infotainment system with improved connectivity. The cabin may also get revised upholstery with new materials or colour options. Overall, the changes are expected to enhance convenience and equipment levels without major alterations to the interior layout.Mechanically, it’s expected to remain the same and will continue to get two engine options – a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, NA petrol engine that puts out 121bhp and 145Nm of torque and comes paired either with a 6-speed MT or a CVT gearbox. There’s also a segment-first hybrid powertrain offer: a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle hybrid engine with 124 hp and 253 Nm of torque.Honda ZR-VAlongside the new Honda City, the Honda ZR-V is also expected to be revealed. The Honda ZR-V is expected to arrive in India as a full import, positioned above the brand’s current line-up as a halo offering rather than a volume model. It is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid engine paired with an e-CVT gearbox, producing around 180hp and 315Nm, with an all-wheel-drive option. Pricing is expected to be in the Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh range (ex-showroom), placing it against premium five-seat SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq.MiniCountryman CNext is the Mini Countryman C, which is expected to be launched sometime in May 2026. The pre-bookings for the locally manufactured Mini Countryman C recently began; interested customers can book the car exclusively through the Mini dealership starting today. Prices are expected to be announced next month, with deliveries likely to begin shortly after the launch. The new Mini Countryman C will be locally produced at the BMW Group plant in Chennai.

The Countryman in India is currently offered in an all-electric version and with the sportier JCW pack. The company will now introduce a petrol variant, and Mini says this addition will complete the Countryman lineup in India. The upcoming Countryman is likely to be priced between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh. The new SUV will rival the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Volvo XC40 and other similarly priced SUVs.In terms of design, the Mini Countryman C follows the design cues of the JCW and electric versions in terms of overall design elements such as the headlamp design, tail lamps and wheel design. At the front, it features circular headlamps paired with a more squared grille, along with an upright nose and a revised bumper, giving it a stronger appearance compared to earlier models.In profile, the design shifts towards a more boxy silhouette, with a flat roofline, upright stance and squared wheel arches. The longer wheelbase contributes to improved proportions and interior space. The rear remains simple, with LED tail-lamps featuring a modern lighting signature, a clean tailgate design and minimal detailing. Moving inside, the cabin follows a minimalist layout, highlighted by a central circular touchscreen. The dashboard design reduces physical controls while maintaining some of Mini’s characteristic styling elements.BMW M440iThe BMW M440i Convertible is expected to debut in India around mid-2026 as a niche offering focused on open-top performance. It will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine producing about 374hp and 500Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, with a claimed 0-100 kmph time of 4.9 seconds. The model features a fabric soft-top that can be operated in about 18 seconds at speeds of up to 50 kmph, along with M Sport styling and 19-inch alloy wheels. Expected to be priced at around Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom), it will rival models such as the Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet.
