Unlike Nayak, Anil Kapoor says he does not want to be Chief Minister for a day in real life: ‘As a citizen, I'll do whatever I can'

Anil Kapoor, who immortalised the role of a common man-turned-Chief Minister in Nayak: The Real Hero, has made it clear that he has no political ambitions in real life.In a conversation with ABP News, the actor was asked if he would like to step into the Chief Minister’s role for a day — much like his iconic character Shivaji Rao in the 2001 film. Responding candidly, Kapoor said, “I would absolutely not want to become one. I don’t even think about it.”

‘There are far more capable people doing the job’

The actor emphasised his respect for those in governance. “I respect all of them. I think there are far more superior people who know this job better and are doing a great job in all the states and in the country,” he said, adding that India is “progressing and doing so well in every way.”Kapoor reiterated that the thought of entering politics has never crossed his mind. “I have never thought about it… I don’t want to even think about it,” he added.

‘I’ll do my bit as a citizen’

“From my side, I will always try — as an actor, as a person, as a citizen of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and this planet — to do whatever I can to make things better,” he said.Highlighting key concerns, Kapoor added, “Whether it’s the environment, climate change, pollution, or spreading happiness and entertainment — whatever is in my capacity, I will try to do that.”He concluded by saying that while he has no interest in holding office, he would always support those in leadership roles. “If anybody is on that job, I would like to contribute in whatever little way I can to make things better.”Nayak: The Real Hero, directed by S. Shankar, follows a journalist who gets a one-day opportunity to become Chief Minister and uses it to bring swift reforms — a storyline that struck a chord with audiences and continues to be widely referenced in political conversations. The film also featured Amrish Puri, Rani Mukerji, Pooja Batra, Paresh Rawal, Johny Lever, Shivaji Satam among others.
