KRISHNAGIRI: Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Monday changed their candidates in Uthangarai and Hosur constituencies in Krishnagiri district creating confusion among party workers.Vijay had earlier announced that the party was fielding Kumaravel and Amrish in Uthangarai and Hosur, respectively. But on Monday, Dr Elayaraja filed nomination in Uthangarai and Venderkarasan filed his papers in Hosur as the party’s official candidates.
According to party functionaries, Dr Elayaraja was a former AIADMK district medical wing secretary and a supporter of party deputy general secretary K P Munusamy. “After failing to secure an AIADMK ticket in Uthangarai, he planned to contest independently,” said a party man, adding that local TVK functionaries persuaded him to join the party and contest under its banner. He joined the party a week ago and was declared a candidate overnight.Kumaravel was said to be struggling financially and unable to campaign effectively. On being replaced, he filed his nomination as an independent candidate. In Hosur, Amrish was replaced. Party sources said his performance after being named candidate was unsatisfactory, leading to Venderkarasan being chosen instead.
