NEET PG AIR 1: Cuttack’s pride, Dr. Pooshan Mohapatra, has created history by securing All India Rank 1 (AIR 1) in NEET PG 2025 with an outstanding score of 707 out of 800. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 was conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on August 3, 2025, and results were announced on August 19, 2025.
From SCB Medical College to NEET PG AIR 1
Dr. Mohapatra, aged 24, completed his MBBS from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, in 2024 and served his mandatory internship from April 2024 to March 2025 at the same institute. Balancing long hospital shifts and rigorous NEET PG preparation was challenging, but his determination and time management paid off.
Preparation strategy: How he cracked it
The real push for Dr. Mohapatra’s NEET PG preparation began after completing his internship in March 2025. Speaking to the local media, he shared that he spent 10–12 hours daily on structured study and mock tests from April to August. He revised concepts thoroughly, used online video lectures, and practiced numerous mock tests and question banks to sharpen his accuracy and speed. His approach shows the importance of concept clarity, time-bound practice, and regular analysis.
The role of family and an inspiring sister
Behind every topper is a strong support system, and for Dr. Mohapatra, it was his family—especially his elder sister, Chetna, who is pursuing her postgraduate studies in ENT at SCB Medical College. “She motivated me throughout and guided me whenever I felt stuck,” he said in an interaction with OTV News. His parents, who run a printing and publishing business in Cuttack, also stood firmly by his side.
Balancing internship and studies
One of the most admirable aspects of Dr. Mohapatra’s journey was managing NEET PG preparation alongside the demanding MBBS internship. He utilised small breaks during hospital duty for revision and maximised clinical exposure to strengthen his basics. “It was not easy, but consistency matters more than the number of hours,” he advised in an interview with OTV News.
Future plans
The NEET PG 2025 topper is now looking forward to specialising in Medicine or Radiology. He will finalize his choice during the upcoming counselling process. His achievement has brought immense pride to Odisha’s medical fraternity and inspired thousands of aspiring doctors.
