Norway is currently at the center of global attention after Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was formally charged with 32 criminal offenses, including four counts of rape, domestic violence, assault, and other serious crimes.
Prosecutors allege that Høiby raped four women, in some cases while they were asleep, and secretly filmed assaults without consent. He also faces accusations of abusing a woman– who he was formerly dating– issuing death threats, vandalism, violating restraining orders, and traffic offenses. His legal troubles first emerged in 2024 after an arrest linked to domestic violence, leading to a broader investigation that uncovered allegations dating back to 2018.
Marius Borg Høiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, before she married Crown Prince Haakon, who is the heir to the Norwegian throne. And so, Høiby holds no royal title. However, being a member of the Norwegian royal family makes this scandal significant. His trial begins in January 2026.
