
PATNA: Angry villagers chased rural development minister Shrawan Kumar and JD(U) legislator Krishna Murari Sharan for nearly a kilometre when they visited a village in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Wednesday to meet families of victims killed in a recent road accident.At least nine people, including eight women, had died when an auto-rickshaw carrying them collided head-on with a speeding truck while they were on their way to take a holy dip in the Ganga on Saturday.Sources said the minister, flanked by armed guards, went to Malawan village, where villagers demanded compensation for the victims’ families. When the minister reportedly replied that the issue would be “discussed later,” anger erupted.Hundreds of villagers, armed with bamboo sticks and stones, chased the minister and MLA for about one kilometre. In the chaos, the minister had to switch cars three times before fleeing. Viral videos show the minister almost running, clutching his dhoti, while security personnel and party workers struggled to shield him.One security officer was injured in the attack. The incident comes just days after an angry mob attacked the car of Bihar health minister and BJP leader Mangal Pandey in Patna.
