
NEW DELHI: Reacting to India’s squad announcement for the Asia Cup 2025, former India cricketer Maninder Singh lauded the team’s balance but felt that young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal should have been included.“It appears to be a balanced team,” Maninder said.“I think Jaiswal should have been in the team because he is a player who adapts himself to all formats,” he added.Maninder also welcomed Shubman Gill’s selection, stressing that the young captain is central to India’s plans.“I would have been surprised if Shubman Gill was not included in the team,” he added.

India will open their campaign against the UAE on September 10, followed by the marquee clash against Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai. Their final group-stage match is scheduled against Oman on September 19 in Abu Dhabi.The tournament will then move into the Super 4 stage, with the top two teams from each group qualifying. If India top Group A, all of their Super 4 fixtures will be played in Dubai. However, if they finish second, one match will be staged in Abu Dhabi and the remaining two in Dubai. The Super 4 stage will be held from September 20 to 26.
