Everyone’s favourite pirate, Johnny Depp may soon be setting sail into the high seas once again with ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’. News of the actor’s return to the hit franchise began doing the rounds after producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s statement at the Producers Guild Awards went viral over the weekend.

Besides teasing the actor’s return, he also dismissed rumours that the franchise will be moving forward without Depp and his character, Jack Sparrow’s son taking over the films. Bruckheimer put those rumours to rest in a chat with The Direct. The Hollywood veteran, who was nominated for his film ‘F1’, was asked about claims that new Pirates films were moving forward without Depp, he replied, “First of all, that’s not true.”

When asked whether the franchise might pass the torch to a new lead, he added, “If it’s up to me, he (Johnny Depp) will be in it.”Depp had previously left the door open on his possible return to the franchise. In July 2023, a source told People magazine that “anything is possible” when it comes to revisiting the high seas. Later, in August 2025, Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly that he had spoken with Depp about reprising the role, adding that he believes the actor “would do it”, although the decision would depend on the script.
Margot Robbie to join franchise?
Depp’s return as Captain Jack Sparrow has remained a much-talked-about subject ever since his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp was last seen playing the beloved captain in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’, which was released back in 2017. Since then, there has been buzz about Margot Robbie possibly taking the franchise forward, or even joining in as a possible female lead.
