Jannik Sinner gave fans a huge scare during his Italian Open semi-final after the world No. 1 suddenly looked unwell and vomited on court in the middle of his match against Daniil Medvedev. The Italian star had looked completely in control early on and comfortably took the first set 6-2 in front of his home crowd in Rome. But things changed quickly in the second set as Sinner started struggling physically and looked in visible pain between points.The 24-year-old was seen leaning on his racquet, grimacing during changeovers, and later vomiting near the side of the court. The situation became even more dramatic when Sinner took a medical timeout after losing his serve in the second set. Daniil Medvedev was clearly unhappy with what was happening and questioned umpire Aurelie Tourte during the tense moment. Rain later suspended the match with Sinner leading 4-2 in the deciding set.

Jannik Sinner entered the semi-final in incredible form. He had not dropped a single set during the tournament before facing Daniil Medvedev. Even in the opening set, Sinner looked sharp, aggressive, and fully confident on clay.But midway through the second set, the momentum completely shifted. Sinner began moving slowly and looked uncomfortable after long rallies. Cameras later showed him drinking pickle juice, something many athletes use to help with cramps. ATP physio Paul Ness was also seen massaging Sinner’s legs during the medical timeout.That moment did not sit well with Medvedev. The Russian player appeared frustrated and spoke to chair umpire Aurelie Tourte while Sinner received treatment. Former doubles star Jamie Murray, speaking on Sky Sports commentary, said, “He is getting treated for cramp essentially, he’s getting his quads massaged.”Murray also added, “Players exploit that every week, it’s not a unique situation. Medvedev knows what is up. Paul Ness, the ATP physio, knows what is up as well.”Despite the physical issues, Sinner managed to regain control before rain stopped play. The Italian was leading 4-2 in the final set when players were forced off the court.The winner of the match will face Casper Ruud in the Italian Open final. Sinner is also chasing a major piece of tennis history. The Italian Open remains the only ATP Masters 1000 event he has never won. If he eventually completes the set of all nine Masters titles, he would become only the second player after Novak Djokovic to achieve the Golden Masters.With Carlos Alcaraz currently sidelined because of injury, Sinner is also heading into the French Open as one of the strongest favorites.
