Girija Oak is married to filmmaker Suhrud Godbole. The couple tied the knot in 2011 and are parents to a son. Suhrud works as a producer and director in the Marathi film industry. He has been associated with projects such as ‘Pune 52’ and ‘Baji.’ He has also worked as a lyricist and event designer. He comes from a film family, being the son of noted director Shrirang Godbole.
Interestingly, Girija and Suhrud first crossed paths in 2008 at filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar’s engagement function. At that time, they barely interacted. Recalling the moment, Suhrud once shared, “At that time, Girija was known as the actress of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ and she came with her boyfriend.” Their relationship developed later, eventually leading to marriage.

Girija Oak comes from a strong artistic family. She is the daughter of noted Marathi actor Girish Oak. She completed her graduation in Biotechnology from Thakur College of Science and Commerce, Kandivali East, Mumbai. Her journey into acting began with theatre workshops and advertisements.She stepped onto the big screen at a young age and went on to work in several Marathi films, including ‘Gosht Choti Dongaraewadhi,’ ‘Gulmohar,’ ‘Manini,’ and ‘Adgula Madgula.’ Her first television appearance was in the Zee Marathi serial ‘Lajja.’Girija has also appeared in major Hindi films. She shared screen space with Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par (2007) and was seen in Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (2023).

She recalled, “Suddenly, all my friends were messaging me, ‘Do you know what’s happening on X?’ One sent me a post debating if it was (actor) Priya Bapat or me! Then my devar told me some cheap handles picked up my pictures and there was a whole ‘bhabhi lover’ scene happening. Some pages sexualised me. But Marathi fans said, ‘You’ve only just discovered her! We’ve known her for years’,” she added.Despite the noise, she remains grounded. She said, “The work I do is here to stay. If people discover my work now, that makes me happy.”
